CHATTOGRAM: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two operatives of banned militant outfit ‘Jammatul Mujahideen Bangladesh’ (JMB) with Jihadi books and leaflets from Patiya upazila in the district on Wednesday night.

The arrestees were identified as Abdullah Al Syed, 35, son of Abdur Rahim of Rajshahi district, and Rohingya Md Ismail, 33, son of late Abdul Nabi of Nayapara camp under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.

Rab-7 Assistant Director (Media) Md Mahmudul Hasan Mamun said on information, they set a check-post in Shantirhat area under the upazila around 11:30pm.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the duo attempted to flee getting down from a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus.

But, the Rab-men arrested them after a chase and recovered Jihadi books and leaflets from their possessions, said the assistant director.

The arrestees in the primary interrogation admitted that they are active members of the JMB and were going to Cox’s Bazar to inspire others through distributing the books and leaflets.

They also confessed that they had been distributing the books and leaflets through misinterpretation of the Quran and Hadith, said the Rab officer. The arrestees were handed over to Patiya police station.
