Five colleges named after war criminals to be renamed

The government has taken a decision to rename five colleges which are named after war criminals.

The name of one college has already been changed while the process to rename others is going on, said a press release. 

Rabeta Model College of Rangamati has already been renamed Langodu Model College.

On the other hand, Syed Sayeed Uddin Degree College in Madhabpur of Habiganj will be renamed Maulana Asad Ali Degree College, Idgaon Farid Ahmed Degree College in Cox’s Bazar will be Idgaon Rashid Ahmed College, Basail Emdad Hamida Degree College in Tangail will be renamed Basail Degree College and Dharmapur Abdul Jabbar Degree College will be Dharmapur Degree College. The National University authorities took the decision last year to change the names of the colleges.

The authorities already sent letters to the managing committees of the colleges asking them to send proposals to name the colleges after freedom fighters or local influential individuals.

Following the NU letters, the authorities have taken initiatives to change the names of the colleges.
