The home ministry has urged the mass media to publish or air objective and informative news reports on sensational issues to avert confusion.

In a notification on Thursday, the ministry said: “Fabricated and confused reports on important persons, politicians, businessmen, bureaucrats and institutions are being observed on print, electronic and social media.

“The reports are creating social instability and confusion among the public. The government, however, has enough confidence in the positive role of the mass media in preventing breakdown in law and order. And the mass media is requested to publish or air news items on sensational issues after proper verification.”
