ACC summons 33 PWD engineers

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday summoned a total of 33 engineers of Public Works Department for interrogation in connection with their alleged involvement in pillow purchasing scam of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.

A letter signed by ACC deputy director Nasir Uddin asked all the 33 engineers to appear before the anti-graft body between November 6 and November 13 to face interrogation and give their statement.

Earlier, the ACC decided to investigate the irregularities in purchasing pillow and other household appliances for the Green City Housing Project of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.

In this regard, a three-member probe body has been formed to investigate the allegation.

ACC deputy director Md Nasir Uddin heads the probe body while assistant director Atikur Rahman and deputy assistant director M Shajahan Siraj are two other members of the committee.

According to reports of different print and electronic media, the purchase prices of various household items for the officials of Green City Housing Project under Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna were abnormally higher than the usual market prices.

The reports claimed that each pillow was bought for Tk 5,957 and the cost of carrying it to a flat was Tk 760. An electric stove was purchased for Tk 7,747 and its carrying cost from the ground floor to top floor was Tk 6,650.

The reports also said the price of an electric iron was Tk 4,154 and its carrying cost was Tk 2,945.
