A Dhaka court placed an arrested ward councillor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on a 14-day remand for interrogation in two cases filed under narcotics and arms acts.

The DNCC councillor of ward-33 is Tarekuzzaman Rajib. Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara granted seven-day remand for grilling him in arms case and seven-day remand in narcotics case.

Earlier, police produced him before court seeking 20-day remand for grilling him in the two cases.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Rajib from a flat in the capital’s Bhatara area on Saturday night.  The elite force seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a foreign-made pistol, a magazine with three bullets, TK 33,000 in cash and a passport from the flat.

Rab later searched his Mohammadpur house cum office, but could not find anything except a cheque of Tk five crore. The law enforcers suspected that Rajib had shifted everything relating to his notorious activities elsewhere.
