Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested four ‘members’ of banned militant outfit Ansar al Islam, also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team, from Gabtali in the capital and Savar on its outskirts, on Sunday night.

The arrestees are identified as Mufti Saiful Islam,34, Junayed,37,  Salim Mia,30, and Ahmed Sohayel,21. Earlier, they worked for Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, another banned militant organisation, Rab said.

Ansar al Islam has again planned to carry out target killings, revealed Rab-4 commander Mozzammel Huq. He revealed this while addressing a press briefing at the elite force’s Kawran Bazar media centre on Monday after arresting the four militants.

Laptop, mobile phone sets and some other digital devices were also recovered from them.

The ‘radicals’ used to carry machetes with them for carrying out target murders, the Rab official said.

“Rab is trying to arrest 20-25 more militants after detecting their close association with the four,” he informed.
