The agitating teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday burned an effigy of Prof Faraza Islam demanding her resignation.

As part of ongoing demonstration, under the banner of "Jahangirnagar Against Corruption", agitators brought out a protest procession from Social Science faculty around 12.30 pm.   After parading different streets in the campus, the procession ended at central Shaheed Minar with a brief rally.

After rally, demonstrators burned VC Prof Farzana Islam’s effigy.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Student Union JU branch, Ariful Islam Anik said “The VC has tarnished the image of university through widespread corruption. We have been rejecting all office orders signed by Farzana Islam.”

Spokesman of the movement, Prof Raihan Rayne of Philosophy department said, “We sent letter to Chancellor to remove the VC but sadly, no action has been taken yet. As a result, we are moving towards a harsh movement.”

Leaders and activists of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance, Students’ Union, Socialist Students’ Front and Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatro Odhikar Parishad participated at the protest march.
