CHATTOGRAM: A man and his four-year-old daughter were found dead at their house in the port city’s Nimtala area on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Md Arif, 35, and his daughter Bibi Fatema, 4. They hailed from Companiganj upazila in Noakhali district.

According to the officer in-charge (OC) of Bandar police station, Sukanta Chakrabartya, Arif was living with his wife and minor daughter at a house owned  by one Shah Alam of Nimtala.

His wife used to work as a domestic help at others’ houses.

“On information, police rushed to the spot around 11:30am and found the throat-slit bodies of Arif and his daughter, Fatema,” the OC said. “The sharp weapon that was used in the killing was also recovered from beside the bodies,” he said.

Arif’s wife said she went out of the house in the morning to work at others’ houses.

Hearing the news, she rushed to her house and found the throat-slit bodies of her husband and daughter, the OC said quoting Arif’s wife.

She, however, could not provide any clue of the murder immediately after the incident.

Members of Forensic unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) collected samples from the place of occurrence, the OC said.

“An investigation is underway to find out the reason of the double murder and the persons involved in the murder,” he added.
