5 US senators due today

Five state senators from New York of the United States will arrive in Dhaka today as part of a familiarization tour.

A delegation, led by Senator Luis Sepulveda, will also include three Senate staff members who will meet high-level dignitaries, said a press issued by the foreign ministry in Bangladesh on Saturday.

Later, they will travel to Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar to see remarkable developments taking place in the country. These Senators provide big support and cooperation to the Bangladeshi diasporas in New York in various issues.

During the last New York visit by Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Senator Luis Sepulveda met him and expressed his keen interest in visiting Bangladesh.

At that meeting, Senator Luis mentioned that as he has been working for the Bangladesh community in New York for a long time and wished to continue his engagement in a more fruitful and constructive manner.

He also expressed willingness to travel to Bangladesh. He expressed his satisfaction that Bangladeshis are making big contributions to the City of New York. He was happy to note that Bangladesh under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has attained unprecedented socio-economic development. He thanked the Bangladesh community for making similar contribution to the US economy through hard work and dedication.

The delegation will leave Bangladesh on October 26. The foreign ministry has organized some other programmes for the eight-member delegation.

A few Bangladeshi-Americans may visit the country at the same time in absolutely personal capacities. They are not part of the State Senators’ delegations or the arrangements made by the Bangladesh government.
