SEOUL: Japanese car sale in South Korea more than halved for two straight months to September on the ongoing campaign to boycott Japanese products, a government report showed Thursday.

The sale of imported Japanese vehicles tumbled 59.8 percent in September from a year earlier, after dropping 56.9 percent in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, reports Xinhua.

It came as consumers boycotted Japanese products following Japan’s tighter control in July over its export to South Korea of three materials vital to produce memory chips and display panels, the mainstay of the South Korean export.
