3 ex-top BCMCL officials sent to jail

A Dinajpur court on Wednesday sent three accused, including the former managing director (MD) of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL), to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed over theft of coal worth Tk243.28 crore from the mine.

The three accused are former MD of BCMCL, Habib Uddin Ahmed, former general manager (GM) Abu Taher Md Nuruzzaman Chowdhury and former deputy general manager (DGM) AKM Khademul Islam.

Judge Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan of Dinajpur District and Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order after surrender of the trio before court seeking bail in the case.

The court also granted bail to 20 other accused in the case after their surrender before court and submission of bail petitions. On July 24, the ACC submitted the charge sheet to court against 23 people in the same case.

BCMCL manager Anisur Rahman filed a case against 19 officials with Parbatipur police station on July 24, 2018 in connection with disappearance of 1.44 lakh tonnes of coal from the mine.
