Police arrested four suspected operatives of the banned militant outfit, Ansar Al Islam, from the capital’s Jatrabari area on Thursday night.

The arrestees were identified as Md Shamim alis Omar, Md Saiful Islam, Md Hanifuzzaman alis Biplab and Md Al Mamun, said Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP), at a press conference at DMP Media Centre.

“On a tip-off, CTTC members arrested them from the capital’s Jatrabari area around 7:30pm on Thursday,” he said, adding that they were active members of banned militant outfit, Ansar Al Islam. “After their recruitment, the outfit leaders took them to remote areas of the Sundarbans to train them according to the ideology of Ansar Al Islam. After training, they were brought back to Dhaka for materialising their plans and targets,” Monirul said.

He maintained that they used to communicate with each other through Facebook messenger group.

A case was filed against them with Jatrabari police. Later, police produced them before court seeking their 10-day remand each.
