A seminar on ‘Increasing Livestock Production in the Hills through Better Husbandry, Health Services and Improving Market Access through Value and Supply Chain Management’ was held at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) in the city on Thursday.

The seminar aimed to put up the current progress of the project in hilly Bandarban and Khagrachhari districts.

CVASU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Goutam Buddha Das was present as the chief guest at the seminar while CVASU Research and Expansion department Director Professor Dr Md Alamgir Hossain presided over it.

Fisheries Science faculty Dean Professor Dr M Nurul Absar Khan, Food Science and Technology faculty Dean Professor Dr Jannatara Khatun and Bandarban district Livestock Officer Anisur Rahman addressed the seminar among others.

Project Coordinator Professor Dr Kabirul Islam Khan and CVASU Poultry Research and Training Centre Director Professor Dr Paritosh Kumar Biswas put up presentation on progress of the project at the seminar.

The CVASU source said the project is going on increasing livestock production funded by Agriculture Research Foundation and supervised by CVASU Professor Dr Kabirul Islam Khan in hilly Bandarban and Khagrachhari districts.

Farmers of the hilly areas are learning and using facilities of the project for nurturing chickens, goats and sheep in the districts. The project duration is set for five years from March 2017 to March 2022 involving around Tk 5 crore.

Addressing the seminar, the CVASU VC Professor Goutam said they will also support the farmers to increase the productions after ending of the project.

Genetics and Animal Breeding department Head Professor Dr Gaus Mia delivered the welcome speech at the seminar while Paring Mrue and Md Mejbah Uddin talked as beneficiaries on behalf of the farmers.
