Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque on Sunday said small entrepreneurs are the backbone of the economy. They are making special contribution to the economy of the country.
“Potential small entrepreneurs of the country are playing a big role in the country's economic growth. We have to create an environment for young entrepreneurs,” the minister added.
Regarding the necessity of creating environment for the young entrepreneurs, the minister said the investment will get higher if the new entrepreneurs get opportunities in the country.
Stressing the need for curbing the micro credit interest rate, the minister said “The Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME) are the tools of achieving economic growth rate, minimizing income discrimination and poverty alleviation.”
The agriculture minister also said SMEs are the tool to achieve the goals of achieving economic growth, reducing income inequality, poverty alleviation. The present government has identified the development of SME sector as the driving force of industrialisation.
In the award giving ceremony a total of nine individuals and three organisations received Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA) in five categories.
Rokia Afzal Rahman, Chairman of Arlinks Limited presided over the programme while N Rajashekaran, Managing Director of Citi Bangladesh, Dr. Humaira Islam, founder of Shakti Foundation were also present on the occasion.
