Call for tight security during Durga Puja

Leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad on Friday called upon the government to tighten the security measures in temples across the country to avoid any unwanted incidents during Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of Hindu community.       

People of Hindu community will celebrate their biggest religious festival at 31,000 mandaps (Temples) across the country, they said.  

Leaders of the platform made the statement while speaking at a meeting with leaders of divisional, district, upazila and thana level at Dhakeshwari temple in the capital.  

They also condemned the alleged incidents of desecration of idols of Hindu goddess in different places.

General secretary of the religious organisation Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee, additional police commissioner of DMP Krishna Pada Ray and journalist Swapan Kumar Saha, among others, spoke at the meeting.
