Jubo League, the associate youth organisation of the ruling Awami League, has expelled its organising secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuyian for running illegal casino business.

“The central committee of Jubo League took the decision as several allegations were recently received against Khaled,” Jubo League general secretary Harunur Rashid told media on Friday. “Khaled has been expelled from Jubo League for violating the rules and carrying out anti-social activities,” Harun said.

The Jubo League expelled its leader two days after his arrest over his casino business inside a sports club in Fakirapool named Youngmen’s Club in Dhaka.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested Khaled from his residence in the capital’s Gulshan.

As many as 142 people, including two women, were detained from the club. RAB also seized 585 yaba tablets, a large cache of foreign currencies and illegal weapons from his home while a large quantity of alcohol, gambling equipment and Tk 2.4 million in cash were seized from the establishment in the city’s Motijheel.

The RAB busted Khaled after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday expressed her anger over some of the Jubo League leaders in a meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee.

On Thursday, police had been granted seven days remand to question Khaled in connection with two cases relating to arms and drugs.
