Five policemen remanded for drug peddling

A magistrate’s court on Monday remanded five policemen, mainly in their 20s, for drug peddling in the capital city instead of netting drug peddlers.

A total of 552 yaba tablets were recovered from the policemen.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua placed Masud Miazi, Proshanto Mandal and Jahangir Alam for three days remand, while the court granted two-day remand against Roni Mollah and Shariful Islam under the Narcotics Control Act

It is alleged that the policemen seized the pills from a dealer to sell those among the addicts. They were caught when selling some of their Yaaba pills, SI of APBn Mohammad Abu Jafor confirmed.

The arrested policemen were identified as : Armed Police Battalion’s (APBn) Constable Proshanto Mandal,23, Nayek Jahangir Alam,27, Constable Roni Molla,21, Constable Shariful Islam,23, and Gulshan Police Station’s ASI Masud Ahmed Miazi,44.

A case was filed against them with the Uttara Purba Police Station in the city.

On September 11, the arrested policemen intercepted a motorcycle at a check post in Gulshan’s Gudara Ghat area.

Later, they took the yaaba tablets from the detained man and allowed him to go.
