Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader hinted that the party would take stern action against the corrupt leaders and activists for tarnishing its image.

“None will be spared if anyone does anything unethical. Action must be taken against them. Stern action against two top BCL leaders proved it,” he said.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, came up with the warning while visiting the construction site of Bhulta flyover at Narayanganj on Sunday.

The minister came up with the remark as BCL former president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and former general secretary Golam Rabbani were removed from their positions on Saturday night for their controversial activities.

BCL Vice President Al Nahian Khan Joy and Joint General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee have been given the charges of president and general secretary respectively.“Through taking actions against leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proved that none would be spared if anyone is involved in corruption,” he said.

When asked about the two new top leaders, Quader said they will discharge their duties till upcoming council.

The minister also said that show-cause notices have been served against 157 rebel leaders who worked against the party in the recent local government elections.

“Action would be taken against the patrons soon,” he warned.

Referring to the party’s 21th triennial national council to be held in December this year, Quader also hinted that they would hold councils of all districts and upazilas before holding national council.

“Councils of all outdated units will be completed before holding the national council in December,” he said. Regarding Bhulta flyover on Dhaka-Sylhet highway, Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the flyover any day.

“This flyover will reduce traffic congestion and public sufferings,” he said.
