A total of 29 political leaders affiliated with Bangladesh Awami League (AL), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jatiya Party (JP) graduated from the inaugural ‘Senior Leaders Fellowship Programme’ at a ceremony in the capital on Tuesday.

Democracy International (DI) recently launched the leadership programme for senior leaders from districts across Bangladesh, says a press release.

In the two-month programme, the leaders learned about and honed their political leadership skills in areas including strategic political communications, conflict resolution, internal democracy, empowering women and youth, and advancing issue-based advocacy campaigns to improve citizens’ lives in their communities.

The fellowship was organised under the Strengthening Political Landscape (SPL) project co-funded by USAID and UKaid and implemented by DI.

During the ceremony, senior central party leaders handed over certificates to the fellowship graduates. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, National Standing Committee Member of the BNP, Prof Masuda Rashid Chowdhury, MP, Presidium Member of the JP and Shamima Shahriar, MP, Human Resources Affairs Secretary of Krishok League, participated in the ceremony and all expressed their support for positive inter- and intra-party coordination, empowering women and youth in politics, and strengthening tolerant and inclusive politics in Bangladesh.
