Students of Dhaka University demanded resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman and Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof Shibli Rubaiyat Ul Islam for their alleged assistance to BCL leaders in getting admission in an evening course under the faculty.

They made the demand following a media report published on Sunday claiming that the VC and the dean allegedly helped 34 BCL leaders to get admitted into an evening course ahead of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election without any admission test or viva voce. Eight of them were elected in DUCSU and hall unions.

A group of DU students formed a human chain demanding resignation of the VC and the dean at the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus on Sunday.

Terming Prof Akhtaruzzaman a ‘Note VC’, Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chattra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, said their (VC and dean) morality has been degraded by giving the illegal chances to the DUCSU candidates.

“We demand the resignation of the VC and the Dean.”

Meanwhile, DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur on Monday told this reporter that the university authorities took various steps to win the panel of a specific student organisation in the DUCSU poll. It has been proved again that the university authorities were involved in the irregularities in the election. The VC and the dean gave the illicit chances to the alleged students violating the rules. They should resign for their  moral degradation.”
