BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said party chairperson Khaleda Zia will be freed from jail through orchestrating a movement.

“The anti-people government has kept Khaleda Zia in jail out of their political vengeance. She is very much sick. No arrangement is being made for her treatment. We hope we will free Khaleda Zia and restore democracy through movement,” he said.

The BNP secretary general came up with the statements while talking to reporters after paying homage to party founder Ziaur Rahman by placing a wreath at his grave in the capital marking the 41st founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal.

Rejecting prime minister’s recent comments on Khaleda Zia, Mirza Fakhrul said that the BNP chairperson had nothing to do with seizure of power by Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad.“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with the former military strongman (HM Ersahd) had destroyed democracy,” he alleged.
