KUSHTIA: A section of teachers of Islamic University (IU) formed a human chain on the campus in Kushtia on Thursday protesting the University Grants Commission’s proposal for formulating a uniform policy on the recruitment and promotion of public university teachers, reports UNB.

The teachers formed the human chain under the banner of ‘General Teachers of Islamic University’ as part of the declaration of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Forum adjacent to the main gate area of the university around 11:00am.

Addressing the human chain, the speakers said that the policy is inconsistent with autonomous universities where all the public universities have their own policy to lead the institutions.

The UGC wanted to implement the policy without discussing the matter with its’ stakeholders, they said.

They would go for tougher movement as per the decision of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Forum if the proposed policy is implemented.

Among others, Professor Ahsan-ul-Haque, Prof Mamunur Rahman, associate Professors Muntasir Rahman, Rakibul Islam Rakib, Minnatul Karim, Toufiq Elahi, Jashim Uddin, Sazzad Zahid, Ashrafun Nahar Hena, Shoriful Islam Jewel, Shohidul Islam, Mehedi Hasan, Hasnat Nahid, among others, attended the human chain.
