Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nawfel said technical education is vital for sustainable development.
He addressed at a programme organised marking the 17th university day of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) on the university campus on Sunday.University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Professor Dr Md Sajjad Hossain and CUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Rafiqul Alam were the special guests at the programme.
Addressing the programme, the deputy minister said the universities will have to come out of the traditional mindset and emphasis should be given on research and industrial relation along with the theoretical knowledge. “New ideas should be generated. CUET has huge opportunities to work in Chattogram for its geological setting,” he said.
The deputy minister also stressed for improvement of standard of practical education and research for welfare of people.
The ‘University Day’ programme organising committee President and Architecture and Planning faculty Dean Professor Dr Md Saiful Islam presided over the programme while Engineering and Technology faculty Dean Professor Dr Ranjit Kumar Sutradhar, Civil Engineering faculty Dean Professor Dr Md Rabiul Alam, Electric and Computer Engineering faculty Dean Professor Dr Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Registrar (Acting) Professor Dr Faruk-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury and Student Welfare Director Professor Dr Mohammad Mashiul Hoque addressed it among others.
A multimedia presentation on education and research activities of the university were displayed at the programme. The daylong programme also included blood donation, tree plantation, friendship football match and prize giving ceremony.
Earlier, a colourful procession was brought out from the Administrative Building premises marking the day.
