Tigress earn second successive win

On a rain interrupted day, Bangladesh National Women Cricket team defeated Papua New Guinea Women team with Duckworth–Lewis (D/L) method by 6 runs in ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier at Dundee in Scotland on Monday.

The match was reduced to 16.3 overs due to heavy rain while Bangladesh Women managed to gather 103 runs under constant threat from Papua bowlers, losing 8 wickets.

Fahima Khatun scored 32 runs and was not out until the end. And opener Sanjida Islam scored 19 runs for Bangladesh.

The match was again reduced to just 8-over with a target was set 59 for Papua Women’s team.

Ritu Moni took 2 wickets for Bangladesh while Nahida Akter also contributed with one as Papua Guinea’s innings ended at 52/3 in limited 8 overs.

Earlier on Sunday, Bangladesh women thumped their USA counterparts by eight wickets at Arbroath in Scotland.

USA women won the toss and opted to bat first. But they failed to impress with the bat as they were restricted for only 46 runs all-out in 19.1 overs.

India-born American Sugetha Chandhrasekar was the only batter of the USA team to reach a two-digit score. She added 15 runs while the other batters failed to add more than 8.

For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter bagged three wickets conceding 12 runs while Jahanara Alam and Khadija Tul Kubra took two wickets each.

In reply, Bangladesh chased the target of 47 in 8.2 overs with eight wickets in hand and 70 balls to spare (48.2).

In the end, Nahida Akter won the man of the match award for her three-wicket haul.

A total of eight teams are fighting in the qualifying tournament along with Bangladesh and hosts Scotland. The winners of the two semifinals will book a place in the main event in Australia next year.

Bangladesh are playing in Group A along with Papua New Guinea, Scotland and the USA while Group B consists of Ireland, Thailand, Namibia, and the Netherlands.
