Several residences and business firms in the capital were fined Tk 136000 on various charges in anti-mosquito drives on Monday.
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted the drives to search mosquito larvae and breeding grounds to destroy them.At least five mobile courts of DSCC conducted drives under its jurisdiction and inspected 140 residences, government offices and other establishments.
The DSCC mobile courts fined owners of different establishments, including under construction building and business firms, a total of Tk 80000 during the drive as they found mosquito breeding grounds and larvae in the buildings.
Zonal executive officer and executive magistrate Mizanur Rahman inspected 24 residences and fined an owner of under construction building titled ‘Manami International Private Limited’ Tk 16,000 at Panthapath area and another building Tk 20,000 at Sukrabad.
Zone-3 executive magistrate Sheikh Jahid Hasan inspected 30 residences and found no presence of mosquito larvae and breeding grounds in the area.
Executive magistrate Udyan Dewan inspected 24 residences under Ward No. 43 and fined three house owners Tk 10000 as the magistrate found suitable environment for mosquito breeding.
Zone-2 executive magistrate Jahir Ahmed inspected 22 residences while executive magistrate Md Shahidullah and executive magistrate Shamsul Hoque inspected 40 residences under Ward No. 49 and 50.During the drive, executive magistrates distributed leaflets and created awareness among people that water cannot remain stagnant anywhere.
Meanwhile, in the ninth day of combing drive to control Aedes mosquito, teams of Dhaka North City Corporation inspected 10, 840 residences, establishments under 36 wards.
They found mosquito larvae in 129 residences and establishments and put up cautionary stickers.
The DNCC teams also found favorable environment for mosquito breeding in at least 6138 residences and establishments and destroyed them.
The city corporation also ran mobile courts to search the mosquito breeding grounds and punished the responsible persons and authorities.
Executive magistrate Saleha Binte Siraj led a drive in Mirpur area and owners of two under construction building were fined Tk 10000 under local government act, 2009 as the magistrate found mosquito on the stagnant water in the buildings.
She also visited 20 residences and establishments in the area which were previously warned and that time, the team found neither mosquito breeding grounds nor larvae in the establishments.
