Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said that the enemies of the Hindu community are enemies of the nation.

At a rally marking the Janmashtami in Palashi area in the capital, he said, “Communal power is your (Hindu community) enemy. They are enemies of the state. The present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is friendly to the minority community. As long as this government remains in power, minority communities don’t have to worry about their security.

Mahanagar Sarbajonin Puja Committee President Shailandranath Mazumder presided over the event which was addressed, among others, by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President Milon Kanti Datta and General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Chatterje.

Quader, also General Secretary of the ruling Awami League, said, “We have a very good relation with neighbouring India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit his country. I hope we will be able to take our existing mutual relations to new heights through the upcoming visit in October.”

Speaking on the occasion, DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said as the country is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country and its people are also progressing from social, cultural and religious aspects.

“People irrespective of caste, creed, sex and religion in the country are enjoying religious freedom,” Khokon added.
