Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman created the concept of Bangladesh to ensure economic emancipation for the poor and the marginalized, said former Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman.

Addressing Bangabandhu Memorial Speech at Dhaka University, Atiur also shed light on the importance of learning political activism of Bangabandhu for sake of the future of the country.

Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) on Thursday organised the event to inspire new generation to the political philosophy of Bangabandhu marking the National Mourning Day.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman chaired the event. Social science faculty dean Prof Sadeka Halim and DUCSU general secretary Golam Rabbani were, among others, present on the occasion.

Atiur Rahman, also Chairperson of Unnayan Shamannay, said Bangabandhu was involved in humanitarian activities like collecting money for underprivileged students. He had also led relief campaigns after communal riots.

“Bangabandhu was also a foresighted political leader. That’s the reason why he led different political campaigns along with leading the language movement of 1952.

“After taking office as Prime Minister of the newly liberated Bangladesh, Bangabandhu especially laid emphasis on inclusive development.

“The country under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter is now marching towards the path he had shown.”
