3 jeep drivers abducted in Bandarban

A day after an army man was shot dead in Rangamati, unidentified armed miscreants abducted three jeep drivers from Ruma upazila in Bandarban on Monday.

The victims are Basu Karmakar, 32, Nayan Das, 28, and Md Mizan, 30.

Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ruma Police Station, said unidentified criminals kidnapped the trio at gunpoint in Minjiri Mukh area when they were returning to Sadar upazila after dropping off passengers in remote Munnam Para, Bethel Para and Linejhiri Para areas on Monday evening.

Basu Karmakar’s brother Binod Karmakar said: “Basu left home after lunch and his phone was found switched off since then. Locals said that Basu and the two others have been abducted.”

Md Kalilur Rahman, secretary of Jeep Owners’ Association of Ruma, said: “Criminals demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh on Tuesday morning.”
