Stocks open week up

Stocks on Sunday opened week up with all the indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges finishing upwards on higher activities of large-cap securities despite lower transactions.

The rising major sectors were pharmaceutical and chemical and insurance. A total of 142 securities moved up due to higher activities, reports BSS.

The broader DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the day with 15.12 points up at 5,216.54. The two selective indices – DS30 and DSES – were also marginally up at 1,841.80 points and 1,197.56 points respectively.

Majority of the issues traded on the two bourses closed the day up on moderate demand. Out of the 352 issues traded on DSE, 184 gained against 123 losing issues.

The trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 323.70 crore from the previous session’s Taka 410.56 crore while the trade volume also fell to 9.06 crore from 9.79 crore shares of Thursday trading.

The five major gaining companies were ACIFORMULA, PF1STMF, Eastern Insurance, SEMLFBSLGF and SEMLIBBLSF. The five major losing companies were VFSTDL, Dacca Dying, Fareast Finance, BEACHHATCH and HFL. The top five turnover leaders were KPCL, JMISMDL, UPGDCL, Beacon Pharma and Monno Ceramics.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the day up, with its major CASPI index ending 60.69 points higher at 15,957.39.

At CSE, 245 issues were traded. Of those, 124 issues closed higher while 85 issues lower.
