Criminals use fake uniforms, handcuffs to commit crimes

Criminals are using fake police uniforms, handcuffs and sedatives for robbery, mugging and abduction in the capital city.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovers these illegal items from criminals almost every week, sources said.

Regarding sedatives sale, DMP Joint Commissioner (DB) Mahbub Alam told the daily sun that it is difficult to nab these sedative buyers and sellers as a small number of pills are traded.

The members of doping gangs, also known as agyan party, buy five to 10 pills from local drugstores, making excuse for sound sleep, the joint commissioner said.

Besides, they get the medicines bought by their wives or other female members. The salesmen can hardly understand their trick, he added.

Regarding illegal sale of uniforms and handcuffs, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman said actions were taken against some tailors.

The criminals are also using fake letterheads and stamps of senior policemen and other professionals to cheat people.

On Wednesday, Detective Branch (North) nabbed one Tipu Mia who used to collect money from various government and private institutions using fake stamps and letterheads of IGP and other high officials.

In this regard, DC Masudur Rahamn told this correspondent that they are investigating into the matter.

However, the police uniform are generally made and provided by the government free of cost, according to DMP.

Mahbubur Rahman, sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, told the daily sun that criminals buy readymade uniforms from some dishonest people for making and selling those to criminals.

However, the sources could not confirm from where the handcuffs are bought.
