5 ‘thieves’ held in Old Dhaka

Detective Branch (North) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested five alleged thieves from Bangshal in the capital on Sunday night.  

Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (detective) of the DMP, briefed journalists over the matter at DMP media centre in Mintoo Road on Monday.

The arrestees are Badrul Huq alias Nasir, Jamal Uddin, Mafizur Rahman, Mominul Islam and Rahad Sarkar.

Police recovered five laptops, cash Tk 1.9 lakh, two private cars and equipment to break locks from them.    

During primary interrogation, the arrestees said they committed 200 thefts in the last 15 years.  

They also said they had been stealing in corporate offices at Uttara, Dhanmondi, Kalabagan and Ramna for the last three years.

Arrested Mofizur is a driver of Uber and Mominul an attendance of Sonar Bangla Train.  

Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of DB (North) Mashiur Rahman, the operation was led by Additional Deputy Commissioners Kazi Shafiqul Alam and Badruzzaman Zillu.
