Jagannath University Teachers' Association (JnUTA) on Sunday protested the threat to Dhaka University Professor ABM Faroque by an additional secretary for his study which claimed antibiotics in packaged milk.

In this regard, the university teachers under the banner of JnUTA formed a human chain at the university’s central Shaheed Minar premises at around 11.00am.

Speakers said Prof Faroque conducted the study for creating awareness about public health from his responsibly as a teacher. But, it is unfortunate that some government officials are threatening him for his research.

They also demanded removal and exemplary punishment of the additional secretary.

On June 25, a group of DU researchers led by Prof ABM Faroque said they detected detergent and three types of antibiotics in packaged milk after testing seven samples of widely-sold pasteurised milk from five brands and three samples of unpasteurised milk.

However, the university’s pharmacy department subsequently denied any involvement with the study.
