JTI’s Rajshahi depot fined Tk 1 lakh for illegal ad

RAJSHAHI: A mobile court in a drive led by executive magistrate Rafe Mohammad Chora fined Tk 1 lakh Japan Tobacco International (JTA) depot in Rajshahi on Wednesday for illegal advertisement.

On a secrete information the court raided at JTI zonal depot office in Rajshahi city’s Upashahar area fined Tk 1 lakh, and seized huge number of contraband tobacco based goods, festoon and leaflets which to use for illegal advertisement.

JTI is also advertising tobacco by disobeying the tobacco control law following various strategies.

Magistrate admonished the JTI Rajshahi depot in-charge Nazir Hossain and also fined Tk 1 lakh, in default of which he will have to serve one month in jail.

The seized goods, festoon and leaflets were also burned at the deputy commissioner office on Wednesday.
