The eight-team final round of the BFF-Unicef U-16 (Talent Hunt) National Football Championship begins on Saturday at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur in the capital.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) held a press conference in that regard at BFF House in the capital on Thursday.

BFF Women Wing Chairman and FIFA council member Mahfuza Akter Kiron, General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohagh and UNICEF Communications officer Iftikhar Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the meet.  

Kiron stressed on the importance of the tournament considering the onwards progression of women’s football in Bangladesh and the glory the women booters have brought for the nation in the international stage.

“Our girls have been doing exceptionally well in the international stage. Domestic tournaments such as these are important to a make sure that our graph reaming on a upward motion,” told Kiron.

“I thank everyone involved to make this tournament a reality as this tournament which is conducted on a talent hunt basis have worked wonders in the root level to promote women’s football in the rural communities. This tournament has been instrumental in our fight against gender inequality as well,” concluded Kiron.

The procedures and rules, regarding the qualification of the U-16 Women Football Championship were discussed in brief at the conference.

Eight district teams, split into two groups, will participate in the final round of 70-minute affairs.

On the opening day (Saturday). Mymensingh will play Rangamati at 2 pm while Lalmonirhat will face Gopalganj at 4 pm.

FIFA council member and chairman of the BFF Women’s Football Wing Mahfuza Akhter Kiron disclosed this at press conference at the BFF House on Thursday. Unicef Communication Officer (Advocacy and Partnership) Iftikhar Ahmed Chowdhury and BFF general secretray Abu Nayeem Shohaq also spoke on the occasion.

Participating teams are: Group A - Memensingh, Lalmonithat, Gopalganj and Rangamati.

Group B - Magura, Khagracharri, Rajshahi and Narayanganj.

On completion of the first phase league basis matches on July 25, two top teams from each of the group will play in the semifinal on July 26. The final match will be held on July 27.
