Ayesha Siddika Minni, the controversial wife of slain Rifat Sharif, was one of the plotters in the sensational murder of her husband, one senior police officer said Thursday.
Maruf Hossain, superintendent of police (SP) of Barguna, revealed the finding a day after Minni was arrested and taken on demand for questioning, saying “Minni was arrested following scrutiny of information given by her.”“Minni confessed to police that she had prior information about the murder. She maintained links with the killers. She held meetings with the killers to commit the crime,” the SP stated.
Hossain said, “Rashidul Hasan Risan Faraji, accused no-3, in the morning and he would be produced before court within 24 hours of arrest.” But he did not disclose about the destination from where he was arrested.
The SP said the murder was committed for personal reason, not for illegal drugs.
He maintained that police arrested 16 accused, so far. “Each and everyone who were involved in the killing either directly or indirectly, will be arrested,” he said.
In response to a query whether there is political pressure on police over the murder, Hossain replied in the negative.
Meantime, the High Court refused to grant a prayer for cancelling Minni’s remand submitted by a Barguna court on Wednesday. The HC bench consisting of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader said it won’t interfere into Minni’s remand as ‘an investigation is going on in this regard’.
On June 26, Rifat Sharif, 25, was indiscriminately hacked by a gang of youths near Barguna Government College.
In a video footage of the incident that went viral in social media, Minni was seen screaming and trying in vain to save her husband.
On Tuesday morning, Barguna police took Minni and her parents to the police lines to record Minni’s statement, but she was arrested around 9:00pm.
