US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller on Wednesday pledged that the United States will co-operate with the city corporation to fight against dengue.

“I have talked to the mayor about many problems of the city in the morning. We have an office in Bangladesh named communicable disease management department which deals with disaster and public health hazard. We will work in a body to fight the menace,” he said.

He came up with the promise while talking to journalists during a visit to old Dhaka. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon was present on the occasion. The DSCC mayor said, “The US ambassador will help us fight the dengue disease. They will co-ordinate our efforts to curb the disease. We can prevent dengue with the help of the US ambassador.”

During his visit, the US ambassador tasted traditional foods of old Dhaka including ‘Hajir Biriani’, ‘bakarkhani’ and ‘matha’.

Later, the US ambassador and the DSCC mayor handed out leaflets to raise awareness about dengue.

Among others, DSCC chief executive officer Mostafizur Rahman, chief health officer Brig Gen Sharif Ahmed and chief waste management officer air commodore Jahid Hossain were present during the visit of the US ambassador.
