The government has launched an online gateway server to enable quick and real-time verification of national identity (NID) cards.

The gateway server,, is connected with the Election Commission’s national database.

Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy officially launched the digital service titled ‘Porichoy’ at a function at ICT Division on Wednesday. ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak was also present on the occasion.

The gateway will help instantly verify NIDs while opening bank accounts, digital wallet accounts or for verifying the identity of any Bangladeshi citizen. It will also prevent forgery of NIDs, make services safer and improve security and privacy, according to the officials.

Speaking on the occasion, PM’s Adviser Sajeeb Wazed said it was his dream that people would be able to get 90 per cent of public services using their mobile phones, which would help them cut time and expenditure in availing services.

Like the government offices, now many private organisations are getting digitalised and when these organisations want to provide services to people, they need to verify the NIDs of subscribers to verify the identity of the service seekers.

“The gateway server was launched to help verify NID cards in an easier and faster way,” the ICT affair adviser said, expressing his gratitude to the ICT Division and the Election Commission for making this service possible.

Palak said transaction of money and delivering services to the people needed to be made easier. “The gateway server launched today will help us achieve this goal,” he added. The state minister said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is trying its best to reach the government services at the doorsteps of common people.

In the past, service providers had to take 3-5 days to verify an NID for providing services to the service seekers.
