Teachers and students of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday staged a demonstration on the campus expressing solidarity with Prof ABM Faroque, former director of DU Biomedical Research Centre.

They formed a human chain under the banner “Students of Dhaka University” at the base of Raju Sculpture.

During the protest, they demanded punishment of those who have harassed Prof Faroque for publishing the findings of antibiotics in pasteurized and non-pasteurized milk.

"If you want to say any research is wrong, then you have to prove it through another research. Unfortunately, an additional secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry who doesn't have any relation with science threatened to file a case against a respected, elderly and honest professor of Dhaka University," said Prof Md Abduz Jaher of Nutrition and Food Science Institute of Dhaka University.

Prof Md Mujibur Rahman of the Institute of Education and Research said, "We should stand by Prof Faroque Sir.”

Speaking on the occasion, DUCSU member Tilottoma Shikdar said Prof ABM Faroque should be awarded for the research. "All the students of DU will always stand by Faroque Sir," she added.
