The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) unraveled the mysteries of two separate recent murders in the city after successfully arresting the alleged killers.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder, chief of PBI, briefed the reporters about the murders at PBI headquarters at Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday.

Azimpur Graveyard Mosque’s Khadem (caretaker) Mohammad Hanif, 30 was murdered in the mosque on 02 July. His alleged killer Saiful was arrested from Chattogram.

PBI boss said Saiful was a Khadem at Mayor Hanif Jame Mosque at Azimpur graveyard.

As he was insincere to his duty, Hanif was appointed as the second Khadem of the mosque.

After the appointment, Saiful had to work under supervision of Hanif. Saiful could not take the matter easily. He used to argue with him very often.

On the day of incident, the killer and victim locked into an altercation at around 3:00pm.

Later, Hanif was sleeping in a room of the mosque at around 4:00pm. Finding him alone, Saiful stabbed sleeping Hanif with a sharp knife indiscriminately and stuffed the body in a plastic sack, and hid it on the small veranda of the room.

He planned to bury the body at the graveyard, but failed due to presence of others at the graveyard.

However, Saiful left the mosque saying his co-workers that his father had died.

After two days, the inmates of the room sensed bad smell and found the body inside the sack.

Later, Saiful shaved his beard and mustache to avoid the arrest and changed his destinations repeatedly. He was held from his paternal aunt’s house at Beparikandi of Agrabad in Chattogram city. He confessed that he killed Hanif.

Killer Saiful Islam, 38, son of Shafikul Islam, hailed from Senbagh, Noakhali.

In another incident in the city, Amir Hossain killed her third wife Sharmeen, 20 at their rented house in Mohammadpur on 2 July.

Four months before the murder, they had love affairs and married each other subsequently.

On June 30, the accused came to the victim’s rented house at Mohammadpur and demanded Tk10,000 as dowry.

On July 1, Amir again came to his father-in-law’s house and demanded Tk 50,000.

The family of Sharmeen gave him Tk1,000 and said they had no more money to pay him. Later, Amir threatened them to kill their daughter.

On July 2, Amir killed Sharmeen stabbing with a boty (vegetable cutter) and phoned victim’s family, saying that her body was lying under the cot of their room. Then he fled the scene.

PBI held Amir Hossain, 28 from a house at EPZ Thana area in Chattogram city. Amir, son of Daulatkhan, hailed from Bhola. He confessed to killing his wife.
