Ershad responds to doctors

Jatiya Party acting chairman GM Quader on Tuesday said health condition of the party’s ailing chairmen HM Ershad has improved slightly but not out of danger.

“Health condition of HM Ershad has slightly better than yesterday (Monday). He is responding to call through moving eyelids today as physicians have reduced sleeping medicine. But his condition is not out of danger yet,” he said.

The acting chairman was addressing a press briefing at the party chairman’s Banani office in the capital on Tuesday noon. In reply to a question, GM Quader said the infection of his brother Ershad’s body has eased in some of cases. Ershad won’t undergo dialysis on Tuesday to test how much his kidney is functioning.

“However, the level of bilirubin in his blood has increased a little bit,” he said. Ershad’s body organs have been kept active artificially with the help of medical equipments and medicine, Quader added.

HM Ershad, now 89-year-old former military strongman, also the leader of the opposition in Jatiya Sangsad was admitted at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital on June 22 with numerous old age complications, including low hemoglobin and liver complication, high bilirubin and serious keen pain. Later, the former military ruler has been kept on life support in the hospital as his condition deteriorated.
