A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the jail authorities to take measures as per jail code for former Sonagazi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moazzem Hossain.

Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of Cyber Tribunal (Bangladesh) in Dhaka passed the order after Moazzem’s lawyer submitted a petition seeking first class division for the OC in jail.

The court made the order after a hearing on a petition filed by Moazzem’s lawyer on June 20 with the court seeking a first class division for him.

Peshkar of the cyber tribunal Shamim Al Mamun told daily sun that the court did not pass any order to give division to the former OC in jail but it instructed the authorities concerned to take steps in accordance with the jail code.

Moazzem, now in jail, is an accused in a case filed over recording Feni Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement on his phone and circulating the video clip on social media without her consent.

Supreme Court lawyer Sayedul Haque Suman filed the case against the former OC on April 15 for recording Nusrat’s statement on his phone and circulating the video clip on social media without her consent.

The tribunal on May 27 issued an arrest warrant against Moazzem after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a probe report in the case.

Afterward, the court on June 17 rejected a bail petition of OC Moazzem and sent him to jail after police produced him before the court in the case. Moazzem was arrested on June 16 from the capital’s Supreme Court area when he tried to get bail from the court.

Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni’s Sonagazi upazila, was set ablaze on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against the madrasa principal, Siraj Ud Doula, for sexually harassing her.
