‘DNCC, police to fight militancy together’

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam on Monday said public representatives of the city corporation and police will work together to fight militancy and terrorism.

He said, “As the public representatives maintain contacts with all sections of people of the society, their role to curb militancy and terrorism is vital. Public representatives of the DNCC will work together with police to deal with the problems.”     

Atiqul said these at a seminar titled “Responsibilities of Public Representatives to Resist Extremism” at a hotel in the capital’s Gulshan.

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Bangladesh Police arranged the seminar to make public awareness. 

The mayor said, “Prime Minster (PM) Sheikh Hasina has successfully controlled the militancy and terrorism by law enforcing agencies. Following the Holy Artisan Bakery incident, business environment of the country was being worsened. Foreign investors and businessmen had started winded up their businesses.” 

Praising the PM, he said, “By her capacity and capability, she controlled militancy and terrorism.”  

Atiqul urged Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to raise awareness in this regard among students of schools, colleges and universities.     

DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia,  CTTC unit chief Md Monirul Islam, also the additional commissioner of the police, deputy commissioner Proloy Kumar Joardar, DNCC panel mayor Aleya Sarwar Daisy, among others, attended the meeting.
