121 Jamaat, Shibir men sued over clash

CHATTOGRAM: A case was filed on Sunday accusing some 121 Jamaat-shibir men in connection with the clash with activists of Chhatra League over ‘namaz e-janaza’ of Jamaat central leader Muminul Hoque Chowdhury, also father-in-law of Awami League (AL) Lawmaker Dr Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi, at Parade Maidan in the city on Saturday.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chattogram College unit Member Safayet Hossain Raju filed the case with concerned Chawk Bazar police station.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin of the police station said the case was filed accusing 31 identified and 80 to 90 unidentified persons.

Allegation of attacking with sharp weapons and attempt to capture seats in college hostels were brought in the case, he said.

Sources said the Jamaat Central Working Committee Member Muminul, father of Mahila AL Central Committee Member Rizia Reza Chowdhury, passed away at a city hospital on Friday night.

Lawmaker Nadvi, who was elected from Chattogram-15 constituency (Lohagara and Satkania) with AL ticket, phoned Chattogram College Principal Abul Hasan, who was attending an Eid reunion programme at college auditorium, to cooperate for holding the janaza at College field, known as Parade Maidan.
