Rapid Action Battalion-1 (RAB) arrested six alleged members of a kidnap gang during a swoop in Uttara in the capital on Saturday, said a press release of RAB headquarters on Sunday.

The arrestees are Masud Rana, 24, Mohammad Shuvo, 24, Dulal Sheikh, 65, Hossain Bepari, 22, Momin Ullah Al Munna, 19, and Zakir Ahmed alias Zakir, 23.

On June 20, the gang members allegedly abducted Nawshad Hossain Nayan, 19, and Fagun Ahmed Nayan, 20, in Uttara, who are friends to each other.

According to the press release, the two friends were walking on Road 4/A at Sector No. 5.

When they reached an eight-storey under-construction building, the alleged kidnappers intercepted them, forcibly took them to the second floor of the building, and confined them.

Later, the criminals began to beat up the victims with sticks and made their family members hear the sound of beating over phone.

They also demanded Tk 1 lakh from their families for their release.

Rabiul Awal, father of Nawshad, gave Tk 10,000 to the abductors through a bKash number and told them that he was unable to pay any more money.

Then, the criminals released the two friends around 6:00 pm on that day.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said they are members of a kidnapping gang.

They abducted many people and collected ransom money from their families and relatives. The Rab-1 is now trying to arrest the rest of the gang members.
