CHATTOGRAM: Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed over ‘namaz e-janaza’ of Jamaat central leader Muminul Hoque Chowdhury, also father-in-law of Awami League (AL) Lawmaker Dr Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi at Parade Maidan in the city on Saturday.

Sources said the Jamaat Central Working Committee Member Muminul, father of Mahila AL Central Committee Member Rizia Reza Chowdhury, passed away at a city hospital on Friday night.

Lawmaker Nadvi, who was elected from Chattogram-15 constituency (Lohagara and Satkania) with AL ticket, phoned Chattogram College Principal Abul Hasan, who was attending an Eid reunion programme at college auditorium, to cooperate for holding the Janaza at College Field, known as Parage Maidan.

Being informed, the principal asked present teachers and students, mostly BCL-men, to take part in the Janaza.

Enraged by this, activists of the college unit BCL announced to resist janaza of the Jamaat leader who conducted ‘gayebana janaza’ of executed war criminal and Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami at the Parade Maidan.

The BCL-men led by college unit General Secretary Subash Mallick Sabuj rushed to the spot where Shibir-men were staying from earlier.  At one stage of tensed situation, BCL and Shibir men locked in a clash and threw brickbats to each other leaving four to five of them injured.
