Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Saturday returned to classes after a week following an assurance to meet their 16-point demand.

The students, who started demonstration on June 15 boycotting classes and examinations, decided on Friday night to join classes after receiving an official notice from the university authorities, Hasan Sarwar Shaikat, spokesperson of the demonstrators, said.

BUET Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Saiful Islam said the demands will be implemented in the fastest possible time.

Students of the engineering have been protesting to realise 16-point demands which include formation of a committee comprising teachers of civil engineering and architecture departments to build the BUET gate, introducing teacher evaluation system, digitising students’ payment process and increasing allocation in research sector.
