A Feni court on Thursday indicted 16 people including Md Sirajuddaula, the suspended principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa in Feni, for murdering madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

Judge Mamunur Rashid of Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal framed charges in presence of all the accused in the sensational murder case.

The court also fixed June 27 to start recording testimony of witnesses.

Public Prosecutor Hafiz Ahmed said there are names of ninety-two witnesses in the 772-page charge sheet submitted by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The other accused are Nur Uddin, Shahdat Hossain Shamim,  Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, Jabed Hossain alias Shakhwat Hossain Jaber, Hafez Abdul Kader, Afsar Uddin, Kamrun Nahar Moni, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa, Abdur Rahim Sharif, Eftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, Mohammad Shamim, Ruhul Amin, and Mohiuddin Shakil.

Of the 16, 12 have already made confession before magistrate. On May 29, the PBI pressed charges against the 16 accused seeking death penalty for murdering Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 on the instruction of Sirajuddaula and she succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on April 10.

Nusrat had accused Sirajuddaula of harassing her sexually on March 27.

A group of masked youths, later found to be the cronies of the disgraced principal, took Nusrat to the roof of the madrasa building and set her ablaze after tying her with her own scarf.
