Police rescued Syed Iftekhar Alam Shourav, the nephew of former state minister for home affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, from Mymensingh early Thursday, 11 days after he had gone missing.

Police said miscreants left Shourav, 25, in front of Jamil Auto Rice Mill at Bottola Bazar in Tarakanda upazila around 5am.

Being informed, police went to the spot and rescued Shourav, said Tarakanda Police Station officer in-charge Mizanur Rahman. The police official added that he is now in good health.

Sohel Taj confirmed this through his facebook live around 6am.

“My cousin’s family came to know that some unidentified people threw out Shourav from a vehicle and fled immediately. They took him to their workplace,” he said during facebook live conversation.

“Later, my family members contacted the DC of police’s counter-terrorism unit. The DC contacted the superintendent of police (SP) in that area. SP Iftekhar Alam himself rescued Sourav from the spot and took him under police custody. Sourav is being brought to Dhaka,” Sohel Taj added.

Sohel Taj thanked the people and police for their support in rescuing his nephew. “We’ve found Sourav. He is returning to us. Together we’ve saved the life of one person at least. We hope such incidents won’t take place anymore. I hope those who have not been returned to their parents will return.”

Syed Iftekhar Alam Sourav was kidnapped from in front of Chattogram city’s Mimi Super Market on June 9. His parents on Tuesday told a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) that a group of plainclothes men identified them as RAB-1 members and picked up Sourav from a house in Dhaka’s Banani area on 16 May.

These people might be involved in kidnapping Sourav for the second time, said Sourav parents.

They alleged that Sourav was kidnapped for his relationship with a woman. On Wednesday noon Sohel Taj said facebook live that a phone call came from Sourav’s WhatsApp ID to his mother’s number at 2:20am Wednesday.

Sourav’s parents said the call had come from his WhatsApp ID at 2:20am but none talked to them.

They called back but no one received their call. They sent SMS to that number too.
