RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a meeting here on Wednesday unequivocally called for forging social resistance against corruption for establishing corruption-free society, reports BSS.
They said the community people side by side with the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) should come forward and work together to attain the cherished goal of freeing the society from corruption and its curses.They came up with the observations while addressing a divisional level workshop at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner in Rajshahi. ACC Rajshahi Divisional Office organised the workshop where district and upazila level administrative officials and president and general secretary of district and upazila corruption prevention committees from all the eight districts under the division attended the meeting.
ACC Director General Sarwar Mahmud attended and addressed the workshop as the chief guest with Additional Divisional Commissioner Zakir Hossain in the chair. Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, ACC Divisional Director Murshed Alam and its Deputy Director Jahangir Alam also addressed the event.
Sarwar Mahmud viewed that wide participation of community people in the service sector could curb corruption.
He also underlined the need for enhancing empowerment of the community people so that they could raise their voices against any sort of corruption or monopoly. Local level corruption could be greatly reduced through ensuring transparency, accountability and responsive administration together with free flow of information, he added.
He further said institutional corruptions have to be checked first before taking lawful action against a person who is involved in corruption willingly or unwillingly.
Sarwar Mahmud urged all to raise their voice against corruption unitedly to fight the long persisting social menace effectively.
