Education minister Dr Dipu Moni said on Sunday the government will update the technical and vocational education curriculum for producing skilled manpower considering demands in the local and international labour markets.

“We’ll do research on future changes in local and international labour markets and update our technical and vocational education system,” she said.

Dipu Moni was inaugurating the final round of ‘Skills Competition-2019’ organised under Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) of Technical and Madrasah Division of the Ministry of Education at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.

She said the government is thinking to bring massive changes in the curriculum of technical and vocational education considering the demands in the Middle-East and the European labour markets.

Sustainable development is not possible without making skilled human resource in the country, she added.

Technical and Madrasa Division additional secretary AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuyian presided over the programme while Election Commission Secretary Md Alamgir, Directorate of Technical Education director general Rawnak Mahmud and STEP project director ABM Azad were present at the event.

At the skills completion, around 2,500 projects were submitted from 162 government and non-government polytechnic institutions across the country.

Every year, STEP is organising the Skills Completion since 2014 to increase merit and innovative powers of students of polytechnic institutions.
